I Believe

I believe in achieving whatever you set your mid into. with hard work and dedication, you can make the impossible possible, all you need is to set a goal, to be dedicated, and to be resilient. With these three values, I have achieved so much in my life. For instant, when I was fifteen years old, my family and I moved from the middle east to Canada.  I didn’t speak any English or was familiar with the western culture. At first high school was so difficult for me because everything was new and I found myself lost. Being that said, I was so determined to learn the language and to adapt to my new environment. The first thing that I did was to set a goal which was improving my language skills. And then I had to come up with a plan on how I’m going to achieve this goal. So, I decided to go to the library every day after school and read as many books as I can. In the begging, I started with children’s books and then moved on to reading the newspapers and magazines. In addition, I made friends with other newcomers’ student at my high school, neither of us spoke each other native langue nor spoke good English, so we were coerced to communicate with each other in English and at the same time we weren’t embarrassed by our language skills since we were all at the same level. After twelve years, I not only learned English, but was able to graduate college and obtained two associate degrees, one is in Pre-Allied Health and the other is in Nursing. In addition, I’m currently attending San Diego State University for my Bachelor Degree in Scene of Nursing. Although my journey wasn’t easy and was full of hardship and obstacles, with hard work and dedicated, I was able to overcome all the barriers and achieve my goals. Moreover, no matter how tough things got, I was dedicated to reach the finish line, I never let anything from stopping me, I knew exactly what I wanted and I went for it. Lastly, I believe in lifting others along the way and land a helping hand. While I’m on my journey to success, I  will always help lifting other people emotionally, spiritually, financially, mentally, and in any other ways they might need my assistance, so they also can reach their goals in life and become the best version of themselves that they possibly can. In doing so, I believe I’m creating  better community, better environment and the world will become better place. I also  believe in spread love and kindness around me and never be envy of others. In conclusion, life was always and will continue to be tough and throw many obstacles in my way, but I know if I stay strong, dedicated and resilient, nothing that life can throw at me will stop me. With strong believe in my values and in myself, I can handle any obstacles.

Grading for this assignment will use the five guidelines found in the “This I Believe” website: https://thisibelieve.org/guidelines/ (Links to an external site.). These five following guidelines are as follows:

Tell a story about you: Be specific. Take your belief out of the ether and ground it in the events that have shaped your core values. Consider moments when belief was formed or tested or changed. Think of your own experience, work, and family, and tell of the things you know that no one else does. Your story need not be heart-warming or gut-wrenching—it can even be funny—but it should be real. Make sure your story ties to the essence of your daily life philosophy and the shaping of your beliefs.

Be brief: Your statement should be between 500 and 600 words. That’s about three minutes when read aloud at your natural pace.

Name your belief: If you can’t name it in a sentence or two, your essay might not be about belief. Also, rather than writing a list, consider focusing on one core belief.

Be positive: Write about what you do believe, not what you don’t believe. Avoid statements of religious dogma, preaching, or editorializing.

Be personal:  Make your essay about you; speak in the first person. Avoid speaking in the editorial “we.” Tell a story from your own life; this is not an opinion piece about social ideals. Write in words and phrases that are comfortable for you to speak. We recommend you read your essay aloud to yourself several times, and each time edit it and simplify it until you find the words, tone, and story that truly echo your belief and the way you speak.
