Collin County Community College Humanistic and Behavioral Theories Discussion

We read that there are seven contemporary approaches (theories) in psychology; namely:

  1. Biological
  2. Behavioral
  3. Psychodynamic
  4. Humanistic
  5. Cognitive
  6. Evolutionary
  7. Sociocultural
  • Of the seven, pick two (2).  Explain the two perspectives in ten lines each.
  • Give a background of each of the two theorist’s perspectives you’ve selected (10 or more lines each).
  • Provide evidence of research that supported each of the two perspectives (10 or more lines each).
How does each of the two selected perspectives explain “drug use” (10 lines for each analysis). For example, how does the biological perspective explain “using drugs” compared to the behaviorist perspective of “using drugs”.

Lend particular emphasis on “clarity”, “accuracy”, and “depth”.  I am looking for ‘analysis’ – not ‘commentary’.  Check out the sample provided Assignment#1-Perspectives sample(2).doc download.

Past, Present, and Promise is from the DISCOVERING PSYCHOLOGY series by Annenberg Media. It provides an introduction to and overview of psychology, from its origins in the nineteenth century to current study of the brain’s biochemistry. You’ll explore the development of psychology in general and some of the paths scientists take to determine relationships among the mind, the brain, and behavior.
