University of North Carolina Wilmington Education Teaching App Discussion

 

Create a charted list of at least 12 apps that you or your students could use in your future classroom.  All resources should be rigorous and relevant to the CONTENT that you will be certified to teach. Each resource should also be purpose-driven to meet a learning objective for your specific grade level/subject area. You can also use the following evaluation tool (CRITICAL EVALUATION OF A CONTENT-BASED IPAD/IPOD APP) to assess the quality of your app selection. The charted list should include: 

4 Reading apps appropriate for your certification level (elementary, middle, or high school)

4 Math apps appropriate for your certification level (elementary, middle, or high school)

4 Content apps of your choice

  • The subject should be within your content and grade level
  • If you are going to be an elementary teacher – choose Social Studies and/or Science. If you are a resource teacher (Health, Art, Music), then choose resources that will supplement your category. (If you are not in the education field, you will select apps that would benefit your future job.)
  • You will need to write a description of the final criteria for this assignment.  This detailed summary should consist of a 2 to 5 paragraph explicit description of how you would implement the tools into your daily or weekly lessons. Think of how you would integrate the app into a lesson:

What would the teacher do during this lesson?

  • What would the students do during this lesson?
  • What is the purpose of technology? How does it enhance teaching and learning?

Other thoughts that might help you write your narrative are the following, would your apps for reading be used during whole group time? Small group teacher-directed instruction?  Small group independent practice? Etc. Use the attached example structure for the categories and websites format.
