Often counselors see clients who have a personality disorder comorbid with other disorders. Personality disorders are more difficult to diagnose and treat than other types of disorders. 

Counselors need to understand the complexity of personality disorders, be able to recognize the etiology of personality disorders, and understand how these disorders affect their clients.
