I’m working on a Criminal Justice exercise and need support.

The video, “Heather Story” depicts the terrible neglect of a 13 year-old girl.  Watch the video and discuss how the system failed that allowed the neglect to go on undiscovered for such a long period of time.  How would you have handled this investigation?  Do you think CPS workers should have therapy available to them to cope?

The investigation of child abuse is one of the most difficult cases for law enforcement.  Identify what makes this type of investigation so unique and why.  Discuss the psychological impact this type of investigation has on individuals involved in determining the facts and circumstances of what happened.

Discuss in detail the different aspects of the judicial system as it deals with child abuse allegations.  Include both criminal prosecution and civil litigation where parental rights have been removed.  Give your opinion as to which one is more difficult to conduct and why.
