Law Homework Help

IND501 Excelsior College When the Rules Go Out the Window Discussion

Consider the following scenario:

Your boss comes to you and informs you that the organization is going to move to working from home due to the emergency situation. All of your employees will be working from home, effective tomorrow. He further states that all of your staff must use their own computers and equipment, including personal phones for communications.

You are concerned as your staff work with a tremendous amount of PII (personal identifying information) that is sensitive and contains financial information. Most staff do yet not have a two-factor authorization to get into the organization’s system, so employees will have to save files to a portable device or cloud to access from home. In addition, many will be using their own cell phones or landlines to remain in contact with their customers/consumers. This compromises the security of the data and violates data security policies.

Part I: Initial Post (Due Week 4)

How would you respond to your supervisor in this scenario? Consider the following in your response:

    • Is it always unethical to go against a long-standing law or compliance regulation, particularly when the purpose has been to protect people?
    • As a leader in an organization, how might you respond in these situations?
    • What leadership traits do you feel are needed in these situations?
