Project 1 : Prepare to Market
In this first project, you’ll prepare for your new role as a digital marketer. You can choose to market your own company or a Sandbox B2C or B2B product we’ve provided. You’ll market a B2C or B2B product; You’ll summarize the business model of the company, articulate the marketing objective, and develop a target persona for the product you choose to market.
Welcome to your first Digital Marketing project!
It is time to apply your digital marketing foundations and get some hands-on experience! Please note that you must use the same product throughout the program.
In this and each of the following projects, you have two product options:
1) The Sandbox Project: you will take on the role of a marketing consultant for an organization you should be somewhat familiar with already: Udacity. In addition to the Digital Marketing Nanodegree program, Udacity offers a wide range of free and paid online courses, many focusing on technology. Udacity also offers training programs for companies, as well as recruiting services.
In order to familiarize yourself with Udacity, its products and services, have a look on the Udacity website, in particular, the course catalog, business services, and Enterprise offerings. You might also enjoy the Udacity blog.
If you decide to do option 1, the sandbox project, you can pick one of two marketing challenges – one focusing on a B2C product, one focusing on a B2B product. Click here to learn more about the: Sandbox Options.
If you choose to do option 1, here is what we provide for you:
- Creative assets (some tools also have stock image libraries available)
- Access to the Udacity Digital Marketing Nanodegree ad accounts (Facebook Ads Manager and Google AdWords)
- Budget for your campaigns
OR
2) Bring your own: You will use your company’s products/services as the focus for all of the projects in this program. If you have chosen option two, you either own your own company or work for one that will let you run campaigns for them.
In order to do option two, bring your own project, throughout the course, you will need the following:
- Creative Assets (some platforms, like Facebook Ads Manager, have stock image libraries available)
- Ad accounts, such as your own Facebook Ads Manager account and AdWords account, to run your campaigns
- Budget for your campaigns in order for your ads to run. If you choose to use your own business, you must have permission from your business to do so and you will be responsible for this budget.
Marketing Challenge #1: Digital Marketing Nanodegree Program
You are tasked with attracting future fellow students for this Digital Marketing Nanodegree Program. More specifically, your objective is to collect leads of potential students, who could be interested in taking this course. In order to do this, we have created a landing page, where prospective students can download a free eBook if they provide us with their email address. The eBook – a Social Media Advertising Guide – is a short excerpt from the Digital Marketing Nanodegree Program, content that you will see in the Social Advertising course.
For the purpose of the projects, assume costs of $0 for the eBook and a conversion value (revenue) of $15 per collected email address.
Marketing Challenge #2: Udacity Enterprise
Your task is to generate new business for Enterprise’s DMND Corporate Training, in order to equip a company’s team with the latest skills in digital marketing. More specifically, your objective is to generate leads, i.e., collect contact information of companies that could be interested in the services offered by Udacity Enterprise. In order to do this, we have created a landing page, where prospective client companies can learn more about Enterprise’s offerings for the Digital Marketing Nanodegree program. From this page, clients can then request more information through a contact form after filling out required fields about their company that provides crucial information to the Udacity Enterprise team.
For the purpose of the project, assume a cost of $0 since potential customers provide their email addresses for free, and a conversion value (revenue) of $150 per collected lead.
When choosing your marketing challenge, think about the kind of products and brands you want to work for in the future. You will stick with the same product throughout the whole Nanodegree program
Marketing Challenge #3: Your Company’s Product/Service
Please remember that if you are using your own company then you will be responsible for setting up the necessary Facebook and Google Ads accounts and you will be responsible for supplying the budget to run those campaigns (please see the project details to know how much budget you will need). Look at your company’s goals for the year. Your marketing challenge is completely personal to the company you own or are a part of. For example, if you are a new company looking to bring awareness, maybe your marketing challenge is to send traffic to your website. On the other hand, if you work for a small clothing company, maybe your marketing challenge is to increase sales for blouses.
Note that in order to select this project, you should have a company website that users land on when they see your ads online.
For the purpose of the project, assume a cost of $0 since potential customers provide their email addresses for free, and define your conversion value (revenue) of per lead by the estimated revenue you expect to receive from a potential customer.
