Discussion question 4 paragraphs (1) Mueller et al. (2011) outline some of the positive outcomes from activity involvement (including how they pan out with the 4-H PYD study towards end of chapter) as well as features of activity involvement. Describe positive outcomes from youth participation in OST that are of interest to you and how they may be indicators of thriving. Also, what is the relationship between Search Institute developmental assets (or nutrients) and out of school time activity participation in PYD programs for youth?

(3) Lynch and colleagues (2016) explore youth program engagement in OST (Scouts) and examine both youth engagement as individuals and youth engagement collectively (pack-level). Why might it be important to examine both individual and collective (pack) levels of youth involvement in Scouts and what were the findings with respect to influences of group and individual engagement on the PYD outcome of moral or performance character development? What did you find different about Lynch and colleagues’ (2016) use and type of measures of activity involvement, as compared with other studies of youth program engagement?
