Thesis
Statement
(End of Intro.)
i.e. From an anthropological perspective, orphan care in Haiti must focus on nurturing because of complex cultural patterns continue to put children at risk through the following effects: abandonment, 2, 3, and 4.

Yours: From a sociological and economic perspective,
the coronavirus outbreak in Canada
requires a strong enforcement of a bylaw to stop public gatherings
because the increasing number of confirmed virus cases puts the public at risk
through the following effects: urging social distancing, 2, 3, and 4.

Body Paragraph: I will organize my paper by CONCEPT or OPINION (highlight one)

Assertion State Topic + Thesis KW (concept or opinion) + Paragraph KW.

CONCEPT
i.e. Orphan care in Haiti reveals complex cultural patterns because children are at risk through abandonment.

OPINION
i.e. Orphan care in Haiti reveals the need to focus on nurturing because children are at risk through abandonment.
Yours:
CONCEPT

The coronavirus outbreak in Canada reveals that the increasing number of confirmed virus cases puts the public at risk through urging social distancing.

Explanation Trans. (In more detail, More specifically, In other words)
Explain the paragraph keyword with a synonym. What do you mean by ‘abandonment’?

i.e. In other words, children in Haiti without parents are often left alone to fend for themselves while given no support from outside sources, which leads to their sense of distrust (Proctor, 2018).
Yours:
In other words, paraphrase the quote: “The idea of social distancing is to separate everyone enough so that the chain of infectivity is broken” (citation).

Evidence 1 Trans.(According to, As ____states/reports/indicates)
Introduce expert explanation/statistics with credibility (3Es) + context + “quote” (citation needed).

i. e. According to John Smith, a reporter from the New York Times, a newspaper that covers a variety of topics OR who has written extensively on the orphanage crisis in Haiti, …context… “Orphans are often thrust into adulthood because they a re forced to live their lives on their own” (Smith, 2018, para. 1).

Yours: According to …….,
Dr. Brett Belchetz, context/authority….., “If we can keep people at least a reasonable distance apart in most settings, the chance of the virus spreading from person to person is greatly reduced.” (Citation).

Discussion 1 Trans. (Clearly, This indicates that, It is clear that, In other words)
Explain how the evidence connects to the assertion. Connect the assertion KW with Thesis KW (Concept/opinion).

i.e. This indicates that without support from adults, which speaks to the cultural norm of Haiti as leaving children to fend for themselves, orphans are isolated from the rest of the society. (2-3sentences)
Yours:
This indicates that (hedging words)/ tends to suggest that, seems to , perhaps, might be…..

Evidence 2 Trans. (In addition, For example, Moreover, For instance, According to _____, ____ states/reports/highlights/suggests that)
Write more specific evidence (a real example/ specific case study/ illustrative example/ interview) with authority + sufficient context with a “quote” (citation needed).

Yours:
For example, Elvira Lount, a resident in Vancouver, B. C…….twitter…. I did my best to stay 6ft away from others on my run but clueless people kept invading my spaceI did my best to stay 6ft away from others on my run but clueless people kept invading my space“What on earth are they thinking. I did my best to stay 6ft away from others on my run, but clueless people kept invading my space” (citation).

Discussion 2 Trans. (Clearly, This suggests/reveals/means/highlights that, For this reason, With this in mind)
Explain how the evidence proves the assertion/thesis/evidence above.
Explain the importance in the scheme of topic.

Write a “Supporting Evidence” to back up the evidence above (expert’s opinion/ testimony/ statistics)

DO NOT USE HEDGING WORDS WHEN DISCUSSING ILLUSTRATIVE EXAMPLES/CASE STUDIES (SPECIFIC EVIDENCE).

Yours: Clearly, …
1) Explain how your evidence 2 supports the assertion.
2) Supporting evidence (mandatory) – paraphrased without “quotes”
Dr. Vera Etches – “Trying to distance people from one another or people can decrease the number of large gatherings that they’re participating in… which results in decreasing the number of virus…” (paraphrase the supporting evidence)
3) Feel free to discuss your supporting evidence and make connection to your assertion/connect the dots between concept/opinion/topic/para kw.

Connection Trans. (Therefore/Thus/Hence)
Using Topic + Thesis KW (concept/opinion) + Paragraph KW, summarize how the paragraph proved the assertion in one sentence.

Yours:
