Concorde Career College Properties of Water Discussion

first :The reason that water has such a wide variety of unique properties is because it has polar, covalent bonds (Campbell, 2018). This means that the atoms in the covalent bond are sharing electrons with different electronegativities. The consequence of this is having both a partial negative and partial positive charge, resulting in a unique set of properties from each. The partial negative charge stems from the oxygen having a bigger electronegativity charge than hydrogen, thus pulling in electron pairs especially close to the oxygen atom (Campbell, 2018).
Second:

Why does water have such unique properties?

Water is made up of two hydrogen and one oxygen.

Water is the only natural substance that can be found in the three physical states of solid, liquid, and gas.

“Since electrons are not equally distributed in a water, it is considered a polar molecule, despite it having the same number of protons and electrons (geo.libretexts.org, 2020).”

The heat capacity of water is higher than any other substance
