For this assignment, you will be putting together what you know so far about the evidence collected after Chelsie Vapolt’s death:
- Evidence #1 Hair collected from victim’s bathrobe
- Evidence #2 Hair collected from victim’s night shirt under bathrobe
- Evidence #3 Hair collected from shirt found in Dave’s closet

- Evidence #7 Rock found in planter
- Evidence #8: T-shirt found in Vapolts’ bed
- Evidence #9: Carpet in Vapolts’ bedroom
You will need to refer back to:
- Hair Evidence – Chelsie Vapolt
- UV Light Evidence – Chelsie Vapolt
- Kastle-Meyer Blood Evidence – Chelsie Vapolt
- DNA Evidence – Chelsie Vapolt
Evidence Analysis Questions
- What species did you identify the Evidence #1 to be from? Using at least one structural/anatomical features, describe how you came to this conclusion. (You may wish to revisit the hair Softchalk)
- What species did you identify the Evidence #2 to be from? Using at least one structural/anatomical features, describe how you came to this conclusion.
- What species did you identify the Evidence #3 to be from? Using at least one structural/anatomical features, describe how you came to this conclusion.
- Based on the UV light test, which pieces of evidence contain body fluids? How did you reach this conclusion?
- Based on the Kastle-Meyer Blood tests, which pieces of evidence contain blood? How did you reach this conclusion? Why were the positive and negative controls included?
- Looking at the results of the DNA electrophoresis:
- Do any of the lanes match? Which ones?
- Explain why these lanes match. Use the following terms for full credit: restriction enzyme, fragment, positive charge.
- Based on your evidence analysis, who is your prime suspect? Is this the same prime suspect that you had last week? Which pieces of evidence support your hypothesis for who the prime suspect is? Does any of this evidence refute this?
Submission
You will need to upload a .pdf with your responses to all questions. I would recommend using a word processor (such as Microsoft Word) or using Google Docs.
