  1. Jordy Rosenberg’s Confessions of the Fox contains two narratives; at first these seem to run parallel to one another, but as we get deeper into the book, the two narratives come closer together, finally losing themselves in the same amorphous utopian space – the “Stretches.” Examining the tension between industrial, capitalist, institutional power and authentic individual liberty or idiosyncrasy, analyze the connections between these two narratives, and how both “tracks” ultimately find resolution in the same place, a place that seems both improbable and absurd, and also a logical, fitting conclusion. 2
  2. In Confessions of the Fox, we encounter London just as it is beginning to turn into an industrialized, capitalist powerhouse – an exciting time for some, and for others, the end of time-honored traditions and ways of living. In your essay, analyze the tension between the natural world, and its “connectedness,” and the strictly-human world of desire, greed and manipulation. Examining the different narratives, explore how the categories of “natural” and “artificial,” “organic” and “synthetic,” etc, are presented and contrasted against one another.
