You will be writing an Argumentative Synthesis for your second paper. Since it is argumentative, you will drawing on evidence from a variety of sources in an attempt to persuade other of the truth or validity of a debatable claim. That means you need to familiarize yourself with the elements of an argument: claim, support, and assumption. Devise two sets of claims, support, and assumptions. First, in response to the example on page 127-128 about smartphone interactions, write a one-sentence claim addressing the positive impact (or potentially positive impact) of smartphones on relationships—whether you personally agree with the claim or not. Then list the supporting statements on which such a claim might rest and the assumption that underlies them. Second, write a claim that states your own position on any debatable topic you choose. Again, devise statements of support and relevant assumptions.
