Week 1 Discussion – Basics and Finding Academic Articles

Part One

This week there is a very brief introduction to Microsoft Office programs, which will be expanded on in later lectures. As part of this discussion to better serve your needs, please talk a bit about your experiences with Microsoft Office (or Google’s versions of the programs, including Google Docs or Google Sheets) and anything in particular you have had issues or confusions with. This will help me tailor the individual demonstrations and some additional resources for you. 

Part Two

Please also do a bit of individual practice with looking up articles. Find one academic article on a topic of your choice (hopefully related to what you might want to write about later, whether that is online forum use, animals in society, video games, comedy, memes, etc) that seems interesting to you and share a bit about how/where you found it and why it was of interest.
