A Last Letter to an Important Person Reflection Essay

Reflect

A sad fact of life is that we rarely tell the people we love how much they mean to us. This activity affords us the opportunity to, at least, put in writing what we would like to say. Choose only one person who is important to you – this may be someone in your family or a close friend. Imagine if you would never see them again and that you had the opportunity to write them one last letter. Think of what you would like to put in that letter, and write it down. Some questions you might think about before you write your letter:

  • What do you most value about that person?
  • What would you miss about that person if you never saw each other again?
  • What things do you wish you could have heard from that person?
  • What do you wish you had said? What was the happiest moment you shared with that person?
  • What one thing do you wish you could change about your relationship with that person?
  • What one aspect of your relationship with this person are you grateful for?
  • What was your initial reaction (emotion) to writing the letter?
  • Were there any benefits or insights gained from writing the letter?
  • Would you consider mailing the letter? Why or Why not?

Thoughtfully reflect on the questions and write a 600 to 800-word essay.
