What is objectivity? What role does objectivity play in intercultural communication?

Just to start the thinking process…

With whom do we most associate ideas of objectivity in terms of careers, societal roles, or backgrounds? Are these individuals or groups truly objective, or do they merely pay lip service to it? Are we as humans truly capable of objectivity, or are we programmed for bias, regardless of our good intentions? The German philosophers of the nineteenth century struggled with these notions, arriving at vastly different perspectives on the issue.
