Read Chapters 6-9 

1. (Stevenson helped achieve United States Supreme Court decisions that prohibit sentencing children under 18 to death or to life imprisonment without parole.)In Chapter 6, Stevenson visits a child named Charlie who is in prison for killing his mother’s abusive boyfriend. In what ways has the judicial system failed to protect Charlie?  What ultimately happens to Charlie? How do you feel about other children in prisons who never meet a Mr. and Mrs. Jennings?  
2. How do you feel about Payne v. Tennessee? Does the the race of victims of crime factor into decisions about sentencing?  
3. Stevenson remarks on several physical actions he takes during the trial.  What are they? Are they effective?
