Morality and Religion Discussion Questions

Q1

Does morality require religion? There is a direct correlation between morality and religion. People assume that a scale of morality would not exist if religion was not present. What are your thoughts?

Q2

How do your own personal morals intersect with your religious ethics? Looking at the fact that much of religious ethics stem from your own understanding and interpretations surrounding a religion, in what ways can this interpretation change your own personal morals? In general, we tend to form our own views of morals from the way we see and function in society. However, these morals are constantly changing and evolving due to outside influences. Thus, in what ways do our own morals shift, change, and become intertwined with our religious ethics?

Q3

Could you remain peaceful in the face of injustice? As Gandhi believed, we should never become violent in the face of injustice. If we became violent or hateful would we not be just as bad as them? Do you believe that you could remain peaceful if you were put in a difficult situation? Would you have enough strength to let God handle the repercussions as you handled the suffering? How do you think you would react?
