Study Unit 11.17 talks about Baumrind’s (1967) theory of parenting styles, and parenting advice (such as books and videos) are a huge industry in the U.S. Yet research in developmental psychology seems to show that parenting hardly has any effect at all on how children turn out. (Of course if parents abuse or neglect their children, that causes wounds that can take a long time to heal.) Do you think that parenting style has a big effect on who children turn out to be? For example, do children raised by the same parents have similar personalities? And if you think parenting doesn’t have much of an effect on development, what does?( 400 words at least)
