In the second half of the semester we read about several instances of political insecurity and violence in African countries: For instance, Strauss and Uvin on the Rwandan genocide, Mwenda on the war in Northern Uganda, and Helene Cooper on Liberia. From the Western perspective, such violence seems far removed from Western/world politics.
