Kirkwood Community College Organizational Culture and Ethical Values Discussion

There are many ways to collect data about an organizations culture, it can be done by conducting interviews, discussions, completing surveys, or by observing employees. The information gathered can be used by potential employees to learn about the organization and ultimately help them decide whether or not they want to work for the organization. It can also help current employees and managers to better understand the organizations culture and identify ways they can improve the culture. To get the most accurate picture of the culture and what is going on throughout the organization. It is important to find the best method that encourages employees to just tell it like it is instead of sugar coating it and hiding what is really going on or using it as an opportunity to blow off steam. Utilizing experiments or leading questions are considered unethical ways of collecting data and usually put employees in unfavorable situations which can result in skewed data. To collect the best cultural data, employees need to feel as if you are there to help solve issues and correct discrepancies within the organizations culture.

The validation of the collected data is important because if inaccurate information is published it can negatively influence potential employees, customers, suppliers, and anyone else that may be looking to do business with the organization. Ultimately the ethical validity of the research falls on the researcher, they must really think about the potential consequences of publishing their research.
