Introduction To Church Leadership (THEO 116)

Choose ONE of the following scenarios for your speech:

1.) You are running for office (your choice of venue, local, state, etc.) and are giving a speech to introduce yourself and your key platforms that you would like to fix: this could be anything from housing, to equity and justice, to fair taxes. You get to choose. But what you should do is the following: Follow the structure of the regular speech (exordium, propositio, narratio, probatio (with refutatio), and peroratio. Since this is a political speech, you should use the refutatio. How you choose to is entirely up to you. You should also use at least one of the following: autobiography, vituperatio, inversion, revaluation.

2.) You are the pastor at a local church. A basketball coach who is a member of a different church has argued that his team is winning because they are good Christians and God loves them. His pastor approves of this approach and both have made statements to this effect publicly both at their church and after games. The high school on your side of town is set to play them next week so the other pastors in the community have asked you to give a sermon/speech to your community that offers a response to this situation. The sermon is for your community, but it will be received as more than that. Write a speech that utilizes the structure of a regular speech (exordium, propositio, narratio, probatio (with refutatio), and peroratio). Since this is a sermon, you may or may not use refutatio, or may want to keep it subtle. You should also use at least one of the following: autobiography, vituperatio, inversion, and revaluation.
