Stanford University Born a Crime and Parasite Essay

Hey Felix,

you’ve helped me with previous short responses similar to this (600 words+) and always did well so I’m sending you this assignment.

This short paper assignment should be a 600-word response (minimum; more is acceptable) to the prompt listed below.

Six hundred words is not a lot of space – approximately 2 pages, double spaced – and yet the question requires a thorough answer.

Option 1: We have discussed the way that Trevor Noah uses humor throughout the book. Some elements of humor are exaggeration, hyperbole, incongruity, overstatement, understatement, and wordplay or word choice. Select an example of a funny moment in the book that we did not discuss in class (you may not select: Go Hitler! or the Teddy shoplifting story) and analyze the way that Noah writes in a way that is funny. What techniques does he use to make his story humorous?

Option 2: Compare Born a Crime to another text we have read/watched in class (Texts: Black Sunday by Tola Rotimi Abraham, Movies: Parasite). What are some thematic similarities or differences between the two texts? Do the authors/directors have similar messages to share? Do they share them in similar or different ways? Support your answer with evidence from both texts.

Let me know if you have any questions! 🙂
