CUNY CCNY Customer Focused Job Titles Essay

Assignment Introduction

The Internet has broken down the hierarchies and barriers within organizations leading to a more customer focus approach. This has led to the practice of using job titles when work is designed. A relatively recent idea is to give two job titles to employees: One job title reflects the employee’s internal role within the organization and the second job title is a customer-focused one. The customer-focused job title is descriptive and individualistic and lets employees have fun and creativity with designing their job title.

Here are some examples of creative customer-focused job titles:

Chief Talent Scout: The title for the person in charge of recruiting.
Director of Privacy: The title for the person responsible to protect customers’ privacy as well as the organization’s own intellectual property such as copyrighted software code.
Director of Consumer Delight & Loyalty: The title for the employee who is responsible for marketing new products and services.
Senior Vice President of Great People: The title for the senior executive responsible for human resources.
Sultan of Sound Bites: The person responsible for communicating information to members of the investment community regarding organizational performance and future business prospects.
