Write a four sentence reply to those two students:

1.)The journey of the new arrivals to California is very similar to a variety of immigrants and their experiences. One example of this similarity is the fact that many Asian immigrants were former refugees that migrated from their home countries to the United States. Some of these home countries are third world countries meaning that settlers of places like Vietnam, Thailand, Samoa, and Philippines were experiencing the kind of lifestyle that has little to nothing to make a decent living. No matter what the occupation may be, there was more labor being involved than the compensation and rewards that were being given to these workers in return. Even though I’ve mainly heard about the hardships that Filipinos and Hmongs encountered, especially among my family members, I noticed that the Vietnamese had similar experiences with the Japanese immigrants when the Pearl Harbor attack occurred. Both groups, the Japanese and Vietnamese, were held responsible as a community for the violent attacks that occurred from Pearl Harbor and the Vietnam War which resulted in difficulties for those who were trying to immigrate to and from the United States. Not only did some of the Asian communities faced hardships, but also the Mexicans had a different experience where their own rights were not welcomed as they were forced to pay for services that should have been free of charge, even the amount of work and labor that they encountered was too much to bear with little to no reward like wages or time off.

2.)The new arrivals, vietnamese, had a very treacherous journey to the United states. First, vietnamese had to deal with the french trying to reestablish rule which led to the division of the country between the communist in the north and the capitalist in the south. Then the Americans move to take the place of the French and essentially start a civil war that spirals even more out of control with American intervention. The fall of Saigon happened and all vietnamese in camps are now being relocated. Individuals trying to leave by aircraft, some by boat if needed, and some left. Vietnamese Camp officials in a communist country, the Vietnamese officials, say they will let you escape from camp after you give everything that you own. After they gave pennies from their name, they jumped aboard large boats that appeared to carry thousands of Vietnamese passengers to the U.S. The refugees got into the four receiving centers in the U.S. and were then given medical examinations and identification numbers. They also had to register with 1/9 available voluntary agencies called Vologda, who are contracted by the federal government to help resettle them. The only organizations that could help were ones that had large infrastructures in place in order to help with the great number of refugees that had suddenly arrived in the United States because they were the only ones with the ability to handle them. I did not personally know at all about this story. I am very bad at history, but I didn’t know this happened at all. I had no idea of the hardships Vietnamese had to go through in their homeland, and also to escape it. It’s crazy to think how history repeats itself and no one seems to bat an eye on the subject.
