I’m working on a writing discussion question and need an explanation and answer to help me learn.

Some in America see opinion polls as democracy in action while others see opinion polls as undermining that process.  The New York Times “Room for Debate” (NYT Room for Debate) (Links to an external site.) – also posted in Required Resources) takes on this issue by presenting the opinions of six experts.  

Prompt:  What is the value of public opinion in the political process? Consider the value both for elected officials and the general public.  Find an article that includes CURRENT polling numbers (elected officials or general opinion). I like fivethirtyeight.com for election analysis, but any legitimate news source is fine.
