Stephanie R Yates- Anyabwile, MFT  (at least 250 words long)

Please watch this 16-minute video on how to build emotional intimacy in your relationships (based on romantic relationships, but can be applied to all types of relationships). https://youtu.be/IYgqDEmEJ10 (Links to an external site.)

The definition of Emotional Intimacy is defined as: a perception of closeness to another that allows sharing of personal feeling, understanding, affirmation, and demonstration of caring.

Take some notes on the following so you can summarize and share your reflections on the Discussion board.

1) Write down each of the “tips” that Steph Anya gives to improve your emotional intimacy in your relationship with your partner. Write down examples if it helps to understand the tip.

              1) Validate what your partner says

              2) Laugh at their jokes

              3) Compliment your partner

              4) Be open to receiving compliments

              5) Encourage your partner

              6) Challenge your partner kindly

              7) Love them in their love language

              8) Share your secrets and insecurities

              9) Acknowledge & Explore frustrations as they come up

              10) Externalize problems as separate from your partner and relationship

              11) Express appreciation often

2) Think of your current partner or person you have a close relationship with (remember that emotional intimacy can be applied to a relationship with a best friend, sibling, parent, etc.) Take the 5 questions E.I.  quiz found in the video at 14:28- (follow the instructions she gives in the video Scale 1-5)

3) Based on the “tips” listed in the video reflect on the ways that you already communicate and connect emotionally with your partner (or close relationship) ex. “I express appreciation often” with my partner ……etc.

4) Based on the “tips” listed in the video or the results of the quiz, reflect on the areas you would like to improve your emotional intimacy with your partner (or close relationship)?

5) Summarize your thoughts on the above steps and share these reflections in the Discussion 2 area

6) Reply to at least two other student’s postings. You should include this video, our textbook information, OR one cited reference in your reply postings. Make sure that you come from a place of support and encouragement in your reply posts. Remember – we are all here to learn and improve our overall health without judgment.

As always, in your reply posts DO NOT Diagnose other students’ health issues- instead, share how you relate to their health concern or just be empathetic (put yourself in their shoes) to what they posted. Use at least one cited reference- you can use your textbook or any other source as long as you identify it.
