For this paper you need to watch a Disney animated film (live-action films are not acceptable for this assignment). You will then write a 4 to 5 page paper (APA format, 12 pt. Times New Roman, 1 inch margins, double spaced, page limit does not include headers, titles, or references) that analyzes that movie using the concepts and theories we have discussed in class. You must cite (using both in-text and long-form APA citations) five sources (including the movie) in your paper. Please make sure to cite the Madison chapter we read when talking about theoretical perspectives.

This is meant to be an exercise in looking for issues of race, gender, and colonialism in Disney films. As such, please don’t provide just surface level observations and include what theoretical perspectives your critiques come from.  While it is true that Sleeping Beauty has to be rescued by a prince, why is that problematic? Additionally, while you can watch movies that we discussed in class, please don’t just parrot what was said about them in class in your paper. This is your chance to really dig deep and rethink something you’ve probably watched many times before.
