REPLY TO

I have always heard from my mom the phrase, “It takes a village to raise a child”. I truly believe this is the case as I have worked in a child care facility for two years and as I further my education. It is important to have a child’s family, teachers, friends and peers involved when participating in health education. Health education encompasses every aspect in a child’s life from birth to adulthood and til death. Children’s caregivers should be aware of what a balanced diet for their child is. The diet needs change as the child gets older and the amount of physical activity and sleep needs will also change. The basic physical health of a child also strengthens or weakens their emotional and intellectual health. The better nourished, and rested a child is the better their emotional health will be. As a teacher, we can respect cultural differences by learning the individual cultural and the different practices of the kids in which we serve. For example, if a child does not eat meat then as the teacher I should educate myself on what the proper substitutions should be. I find that newsletters giving examples of menus for fun, and physical activity tips help to keep families included in their child’s well-being. The weekly newsletter can include different topics such as proper diet, how to make physical activity fun, dental care, and always include development al and physical milestones so the family can be educated on what is the average normal. Families have to be included in health education so that children can have a continium of healthy practices once they leave school.

Physical activity is important for children and teachers to be able to burn excess calories thus reducing risk for obesity, strengthen their muscles and bones, build endurance, improve their emotional health by reducing anxiety and depression and reducing health conditions such as diabetes, coronary artery disease and respiratory illness related to obesity. Physical activity is important for everyone and this is a example of lead by example and “practice what you preach”. Regular exercise will make a healthier teacher which will make a healthier classroom. It is important for children to have consistency, a teacher that practices a healthy lifestyle will not miss work due to illness and be a better role model.

A healthy happy teacher is desirable for every child at any age. A teacher is a role model. Children look up to their teachers and many times their teacher is their hero, and kids imitate their teachers in play. A teacher is human and as humans we all have situations in life where we may not be “happy” every day, but we must grow as individuals and learn how to keep positivity enforce for the children that look up to us every day. A teacher that has a bad attitude or who is not emotionally stable will not be able to effectively teach daily.

  1. Parent involvement helps extend teaching outside the classroom; it creates a more positive experience for children and helps children perform better in school; parents need to support learning that happens in preschool settings and at home. For a teacher to add cultural beliefs and make sure they are respected, they should 1.)Assess your own behavior because it is important to recognize you’re culture influences you’re attitudes. 2.) Get to know their students and be proactive when it comes to learning about the students‘ different cultural backgrounds in the classroom; as a teacher, you cannot create a culturally responsive classroom if you don’t take time to get to know your student individually. 3.) Make the classroom a judgment-free zone because students must look at cultural situations with an unbiased opinion and be comfortable asking questions to further their understanding. 4.) Adapt your teaching because culturally responsive teaching is a student-focused approach. 5.) Teach for all cultures because they need to choose content that reflects the different cultures of their students in the lessons.
  2. The benefits of physical activity for children are stronger bones because children need to exercise to avoid losing bone density thought inactive. They need to reduce the risk of becoming o overweight obese because when children do not exercise, the unused calories are now fat and physical activity uses up those calories, so the fat is reduced. They also need to reduce blood pressure because exercise makes the blood vessel walls more flexible and reduces blood pressure.
  3. Teacher’s depression may be one of many factors that determine how well kids learn because if a teacher is depressed but so good at teaching math, those kids would most likely be fine, but if the teacher is depressed and struggling to teach, then the kids would struggle.
