Writing Homework Help
Ashford University What Topic Should I Write Discussion
I’m studying for my Writing class and don’t understand how to answer this. Can you help me study?
What Topic Should I Write?
Part 1 Explore your research guide
Go to the research guide for your program/major (or one that interests you, if you are undecided on your major). (See the list in Part 2 below if you need more help getting to the research guides.) Explore the guide’s sections. In a full paragraph, tell us what you found in or learned from your research guide. What might you find particularly useful in the future?
Part 2 Choose your topic
Based on your Part 1 exploration, start thinking about a topic that you would like to explore. To get help with choosing your topic, be sure to read the article “So You’ve Got a Writing Assignment, Now What?” which is linked here. It is also found in the required reading for the lesson.
Your topic should be something that interests you as you will be working with the topic for your upcoming assignments. (Feel free to read all of the assignment instructions now to give you an idea of what you will be doing.)
After you have considered these ideas, pick a topic that you would like to spend some time with. What topics are you finding as you review the research guide for your program? What topics have intrigued you in the past? What topic warrants further research for you?
Here’s one person’s way of finding a topic by using her research guide.
- I clicked on the library link in the classroom. Then…
- Research (tab)
- Research Guides (under Research Tools)
- English
- Arts and Humanities database
- Entered “teaching” in the search bar
- Selected an article about teaching kindergarteners to love poetry.
That’s it! Her chosen topic will be teaching poetry to very young students. Hope this example helps.
Additional Instructions
In Part 2 of your post, state the program you have selected. Then describe your topic. Tell us why this topic interests you. Tell us what direction you might go with this topic (that may change as you do your research).
