Kirkwood Community College Schein Theory of Organizational Culture Discussion

The world is becoming more globalized and interconnected. The pool of diversity is also only going to continue to increase exponentially and our differences may become more clear. All the forces that affect an organization also affect their culture however, if the organizational culture is strong, stable, and change averse then it is possible that it may become dysfunctional unless leaders make it a focus to transform the culture in an organization to become more flexible adaptable and rich in learning. According to Schein a learning culture has the following characteristics: it is proactive in problem solving, must value reflection and experimentation as a way to learn, have a positive expectations on the desire and outcome of learning, believe that despite the ever changing world that the environment of an organization can be managed and holds a bright future, truth leads to dialogue and openness to effective communication, commitment to cultivate diversity and systemic thinking and that there is value in analyzing the internal culture of an organization to understand how to achieve a learning culture.
