We in New Jersey have to make a choice about the Army Corps of Engineers tentatively selected plan (TSP). Some of the questions that arose in our classroom were about the environmental impacts so the TSP and the social impacts.  Does the treatment in Rush’s book Rising help us understand some of those impacts?

Summarize your thoughts and feelings about the TSP in one paragraph.  Discuss the risks from climate change and the uncertainties posed to the areas, both physically and economically. In your discussion address the questions about risks to people and animals/natural environment posed by climate change and by the proposed structures.   

In another paragraph summarize the situation in Alviso California and the San Francisco Bay. What have they done? what has been gained and lost? Comment specifically on what you learned about horizontal levee’s and how they are working in the SF bay area.

In a final paragraph, comment on how the presentations of others and reading the chapters in Rising influenced your feelings and opinions about the TSP.  Do you have any further questions before you could propose this as a good idea? What will you tell your family if they ask you if you think it is a good idea or not?

In your (3) responses if you can answer a question that someone has posed about the TSP please do so. If not react to at least one point you agree with and one that you are struggling with.  The 3rd response is up to you.
