Writing Homework Help

University of New Hampshire Forest Bathing Activity and Reflection Paper

This activity is something we typically do as a class, in College Woods. Obviously this is not possible, so I have tweaked the assignment hoping that it might provide the same benefits, and a similar experience, for all us albeit on our own. You will need a pad of paper and a pencil, then your phone to capture an image of your experience at the beginning or end. So here it is:

  1. Find a quiet, peaceful place ideally away from any buildings, roads, etc. I realize that for some students this may be a challenge (e.g., if you are on lock down in an apt. or something along those lines), but WORST CASE just find a spot outdoors to chill…the goal here is to get you outside, and simply spend some time by yourself in a quiet place in nature.
  2. Unplug for 20-30 minutes, at least. Turn off your phone, turn off your music. Just sit, observe, and take note.
  3. Now, start writing (or drawing…some students enjoy doing art work for this activity). For some, this experience can be emotional…let these emotions flow! Use these prompts for your response:
    • What do you see, hear, and feel?
    • What do you NOT see, hear, and feel?
  4. When you are “done”, turn on your phone and capture an image of this place.
  5. Submit an image of your response + an image of your place for this assignment.
