One of the health indicators in the state report card was uninsured adults. It falls in the list of access to health services on healthypeople.gov. It discussed how access to health services affects a person’s well-being. It prevents increasing life expectancy, increases the quality of life, and detects and treats illnesses or other health conditions (Healthypeople,2020).

2. Identify one topic discussed in the Life Stages & Determinants tab and discuss.

  1. Routine health services like diabetic adults checking hemoglobin A1c was a health indicator in the state report card. It is under clinical preventive services in the provided link. The U.S. Preventive Services Task Force releases recommendations for preventive services; these recommendations, in combination with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s recommended immunization schedules and provide a comprehensive set of recommendations for primary and secondary preventive services for all Americans from infancy through old age (Healthypeople,2020). Regular checkups like pap smears, mammograms, and colonoscopy will protect adults from chronic and life-threatening diseases.

3. Identify one topic discussed in the Latest Data tab and discuss.

The adult mental need is one of the health indicators in the state report card which falls under mental health in this unit. It talked about how disparities were observed, and it stated Asian or pacific islander populations had the lowest suicide rate. It also discussed high suicide rates among the Caucasian population. Suicide is higher in males than females (Healthypeople,2020). 

4. How can this information be used to promote and improve the health of individuals, families, communities, and/or populations?

The information provided helped me realize they are improvements being made but at the same time more plans and resources are needed. Some health indicators such as adults being on insurance and accessing health services are key to improving health but barriers such as cost of insurance, or insurance not being available to all, race, gender, and ethnicity need to be removed systematically to promote the health of individuals, families, and communities.

Upon review of the information obtained in the Overview & Impact, Life Stages & Determinants and Latest Data tab for the area of focus you have identified, please write a paper answering the following questions:

In reviewing the Life Stages & Determinants tab, what population within your community is affected the greatest by your topic?

What progress has been made in regards to this identified issue; support with data from the Latest Data tab.

How can this information be used to promote and improve the health of individuals, families, within your community?

How do you see yourself applying this information as an advanced practice nurse?
