As you put it together, remember, this is not a book report or a summary of what you have read, but rather it is an analysis of the form, function, and purpose of the text you have chosen to research (The Odyssey). Also, remember that this is a research paper so by necessity you need to include research-in text citations, quotations, etc. I expect to see at least two citations per body paragraph and at least five direct quotations within the paper.  

While you do not need to include all of the following to analyze your work, you could start by looking at:

• who is telling the story
• who is represented by the characters in the story, poem, play
• how do the characters act and speak about themselves and others
• how  are gender, class, and occupations  shown
• what history or historical event the literature is a response to or is written about
• what forms/genres/conventions/techniques are used to tell the story
• what does the purpose or theme of the literature appear to be
