ITCC Current Predicaments & Future Aspirations Speech
For this assignment, each student will be required to give a speech that attempts to describe their identity through 3 different objects. The purpose of this assignment is to explore what makes us who we are and how we define ourselves.
This speech assignment is worth a total of 100 points:
Presentation: 60 points
Outline: 15 points
Reflection: 25 points
There is no grading rubric for this speech, but the overall percentages for the actual presentation of the speech break down as 25% each for the intro & conclusion, 50% for the body of the speech. The outline and reflection will be graded on completeness, insight, and basic college level writing standards. As you present your speech, I will write comments on the areas of strength, areas where improvement is warranted, and the overall content and effectiveness of the presentation. These written comments will accompany your score when the graded assignment is returned to you.
Requirements: Each speech will be 2-4 minutes long and will include brief explanations of all 3 objects you chose to share with the class. Your speech should include:
- Opening remarks that gain the audience’s attention, makes a connection to and/or builds rapport with the audience, and offers a solid thesis.
- 3 explanations or stories as to why the object you chose is important to your identity
- Object #1 will serve as a representation of your past
- Object #2 will serve as a representation of your present
- Object #3 will serve as a representation of your future
- A conclusion that restates your thesis, sums up what you have just told us and connects all three objects to the formation of who you are, and offers a memorable closing statement.
