Reading Discussion: Once a week, you will write a discussion post (300-500 words) to the assigned readings. The discussion should include a short summary of the readings, including all key terminology and major concepts, and a critical reflection that examines specific places in the text that provoke thought. A critical reflection is not an emotional outlet, rather it is a process of identifying, questioning, and assessing our knowledge and biases. You might ask yourself the following questions: What new insights do these readings offer to you and their readers; how does this add to, revise, or shift your understanding of the subject matter?

The discussion should not be merely opinion nor a review (e.g., “I liked it;” “I hated it;” “It was good;” or “it was poorly written”). Rather, your comments should show a strong analytical understanding and critical engagement of the concepts of the reading(s). If you have trouble getting started, choose 3 quotes from different parts of the reading that capture the overall point of that section, and use those quotes as your starting point (include the quote and page number in your post).
