****BELOW IS THE NECESSARY INFO ABOUT WHAT THE PAPER SHOULD BE ABOUT*****

  • Research Topic
    • Why the U.S State Police Should To Be Abolished: Examining Police State Violence and Policing Against the African American Community
  • Problem Statement
    • The racial disparities within the communities that are policed is very concerning. Research shows that in the American criminal justice system, over 2.3 million people are within a form of imprisonment. Not only is this ⅓ of the population of Americans but the unproportioned rates of targeted African Americans within the system.
  • Significance of the Problem
    • In the year of 2020, George Floyd, a black man, was murdered in public by state police. This murder shooked the entire world to protest against police brutality. Statistics show that Police violence is a leading cause of death for young men in the United States. Over the life course, about 1 in every 1,000 black men can expect to be killed by police. Risk of being killed by police peaks between the ages of 20 y and 35 y for men and women and for all racial and ethnic groups. Why is an institution that its duty is to protect and defend the people are the ones who are killing the people. More importantly, what can we do to stop the deaths and arrests.
  • Research Statement
    • Within the research paper, the question that will be explored is whether state policing is effective within Black and Lantix communities as well as how policing leads to a great number of arrests and deaths of Black people. The research done on these particular topics have shaped the way the world now sees state police. Defund the Police has been circulating through the media since the death of Freddie Gray, another black male murdered by state police. However, since Floyd’s murder the phrase has caught more light. Yet, defunding the state sanctioned violence of policing is not enough. The policing in America needs to be reform and that can only be done through abolition.
  • Research Question
    • Why Should The U.S State Police Be Abolished? And how does this affect the Black community?
  • Why Is It Important That The Issue is Resolved?
    • The issue of police brutality within the United States has been a problem since the establishment of the intuition of policing. History reveals that the institution of State Police was founded directly after the abolition of slavery. With that information, records show the first prisoners were freed slaves. With the foundation of police institutions being based on enslaving the black body, we then must ask why we continue to allow this same institution to be promoted within our communities? Over the past years, the endless murders of black people and the unaccountability of the state in prosecuting “bad officers” has been astronomical. State police departments must be abolished and built up on grounded morals and principles.
