One problem with many studies of domestic violence, including child abuse, is that they have relied upon self-reports. Since domestic abuse is socially stigmatized and can result in criminal charges, individuals may be tempted to underreport abusive conduct. Name one factor (mentioned in the textbook) that would influence both reliability and validity of such a self-report measure.

Suppose you want to create a composite measure of altruism in which you ask respondents whether they engaged in several different altruistic actions during the past year (e.g., giving money to charity, helping carry a stranger’s belongings, and giving food or money to a homeless person).
