GMU Working on A Non Profit Organization the Family Foundation Discussion

Instructions

Introduce your site, including its mission and a brief description of the work you did. What did you enjoy about this work? Did you encounter any challenges? If so, how did you overcome them? Explain how your work benefited the organization and the people it serves. Discuss how your service has helped you explore cultures, life experiences, or world views different from your own.

Re-read Tania Mitchell’s 2008 article about critical service-learning. During your work did you feel that you had the opportunity to develop authentic relationships, work to redistribute power, and re-frame your work in terms of social change? If not, how might you and the other people working at your site achieve these goals? Note: I’m looking for an honest assessment and thus there is no right or wrong answer provided your writing draws connections between your work and Mitchell’s article.
