Southwestern College A Look Back Through Takaki Discussion

I’m trying to learn for my History class and I’m stuck. Can you help?

Over the summer session, we have read through about half of Takaki’s book, learning about the experience of Native Americans, African-Americans, Irish-Americans and Mexican-Americans in colonial America and the early U.S. republic, up until Reconstruction.

  1. What did you learn by reading Takaki that you did not know before?
  2. Has reading Takaki changed your perception of U.S. History in any way? Why or why not?
  3. Looking back, what story/stories in Takaki has/have been the most interesting or meaningful to you? Explain.
