We discussed refugee issues in class this week. In many conflict cases, the children and grandchildren of those who fled from conflict consider themselves “refugees.” However, many of them have never known or lived on the territory that they consider home. Should the descendants of those who escaped violent conflict be considered “refugees”? Does the state where they reside have an obligation to integrate decedents of refugees (eg, offer citizenship), and do the decedents of refugees have an obligation to integrate (eg, accept citizenship) in a their land of residence.
