The CQ Researcher article for this week focuses on mental health and the issue of mandated treatment. Currently in California the The Lanterman-Petris-Short Act allows for civil commitment in limited circumstances and Laura’s Law provides for mandated outpatient treatment in some counties. What do you think? Should civil commitments to residential treatment be expanded? Should mandated outpatient treatment be expanded? What about those that refuse treatment? What do you see as the pros and cons of mandated mental health treatment?
