BCCC Clarify Pieces of Human Cultural Pasts Discussion

I’m working on a english question and need an explanation to help me learn.

Another important Critical Thinking skill involves INFERENCE (to Infer is to draw reasonable or logical conclusions about what is unknown based on things/info that are known). Linguistic Anthropologists, as will become evident from the attached handout, use inferential analysis to reconstruct and better understand civilizations/culture of the past, using only linguistic (language-based) information and clues. Here’s an example: Anthropologists find a shipping log from an ancient ship that lists 200 barrels of Corn–it is reasonable to infer that this society either grew or traded for Corn and that it was probably an important part of the diet.

Actions

This handout will provide a list of linguistic clues for you to reconstruct the society. Take a close look at all the language-based info AND, just as importantly, the second page of instructions. You will write an essay of 450 words to INFER/analyze what kind of culture/society this was. It is important to structure your essay and group your inferences in larger topics [and you should indicate these topics in bold within the essay (NOT as subtitles)–just going down the list, sentence by sentence, is contrary to the essay instructions. Also, it is required that you come up with a name for the tribe that reflects your overall inference. [It is not necessary to read and refer to the the Deutscher article that is mentioned, as it is not included in the handout.]
