Advanced practice registered nurses have been identified as crucial care providers that have not been used to their full potential. Despite the potential benefits of increasing the availability of the Advanced Nurse Practitioner role, we still have limited insight about the actual scope of practice, or how the role is currently implemented within primary care settings (Torrens et al., 2019). Some have argued that we bring a holistic framework of healthcare to those with chronic, complex needs in both primary and mental health care. Advance Practice Nurses bring well-coordinated care to a variety population with chronic conditions. Using a holistic framework and positively influencing patients with complex needs supports our health care system’s mission to improve a continuum of care (Rugs et al., 2021).
Enabling Advance Nurse Practitioners to practice at their full scope of education and expertise is a global challenge. Disciplinary leadership, professional regulation and local employers are challenged to address NPs, FPA (Fealy et al., 2018). These challenges need to be addressed through multistakeholder coordinated efforts at these four levels. This need to come together and find a solution has caused the barriers that block FPA in many states. There is empirical evidence and expert professional opinion on the factors that enable or hinder the development and sustainability of advanced practice roles. We must come together to debate, write policy, and informs clinicians of the myriad issues that can impact our capacity to expand our professional practice (Fealy et al., 2018). Building collaborative relationships with other healthcare professionals is another way to move toward advancment of our proffession. These collaborative relationships will negotiate the role and this is critical to the success of the implementation of the our role (Torrens et al., 2019).

Discuss the challenges for Nurse practitioners that attempt to advance the profession, and strategies that can be used to eradicate barriers.
Nurse practitioner is a noble practice with the primary focus of filling in the physician shortages and to extend healthcare to the underserved population in suburbs areas. However, the profession suffers some challenges that hinders it progress. Some of the challenges of NP include legislative changes and scope of practice restrictions. The frequent change in governmental laws impact NP practice since each legislative change influence the healthcare system (Morgan, 2017). For instance, the introduction of The Affordable Care Act (ACA) assisted about 27 million Americans to obtain health insurance, which encouraged production of NP profession to meet the need of the population (2017). However, a change in the ACA could negatively affect NP profession as many populations may lose their health care insurance and NP need may be reduced.
Another challenge is the scope of practice restrictions. Most state do not support the full practice of NPs, which limit them from practicing to their full potential. Also, NPs requires to have a collaborative physician in order to practice, which cost huge amount of money. potentially limit competition between healthcare providers and the efficient delivery of healthcare services (Ritter, Bowles, O’Sullivan, Gilman, & Fairman, 2020). NPs are restricted in some state in narcotic prescription, which limit them from meeting the needs of their patients that require such medications.
Some strategies that NPs can implement to eradicate the challenges is by participating in organizations that lobby to influence political aspect. For example, North Texas Nurse practitioners is an organization that strive to secure full practice in Texas. Also, continue education assist NPs to implement current evidence-based practice to enhance knowledge and quality patient care.
Discuss the advantage of using the strategy of working collectively towards the advancement of the nurse practitioner role.
Nurse practitioners Working collectively towards advancement of their role creates multiple advantages including the ability to secure full practice authority in several states. Many NPs do not know much abut legislative changes as they are not involved in politics. However, NPs that involve in organizations, they get the opportunity to involve in lobbying for the profession and tends to learn about legislative changes and fight for the rights of the profession advancement.
More so, NPs using strategy of working collectively towards advancement of the profession has improve their knowledge and enhance the delivery of high-quality care. For example, most NP organizations offer continue education programs and conferences to improve the practice. Maintaining competence is a professional responsibility for an individual NPs but forming a team as healthcare providers empowers and encourages them (Bindon, 2017). Hence, of using the strategy of working collectively towards the advancement of the nurse practitioner role has empower NPs, promote competencies, skills, and successfully increase full practice authority in most states.
