Conceptualizing & Defining Deviance Analysis

More notes will be provided for use of this assignment once tutor accepts

Please take some time to review this link—https://www.buffalo.edu/home/feature_story/monster…

If you choose to do this assignment, you will be responsible for:
First, picking a horror movie and clearing that choice with me.

Second, applying some of the ideas of “monster culture” (website) to the film. This does
not mean you are limited to zombies, witches, vampires or serial killers. Think outside of
the box: what does the “monster” represent in the film? How might it reflect what was
going on at the time the film was made?

Third, I would like you to identify the most obvious and important forms of deviance
and stigma that are evident within the movie. Please do not give me an exhaustive list of
every single instance of these phenomenon.

Finally, I would like you to apply at least one major theory that we have covered sofar
(through Differential Association)–not including Goffman’s ideas on Stigmatization,
which you are expected to write about—and at least one conceptualization of deviance
(review Chp 1 lecture).

The same ideas regarding organization, paper length, formatting and references apply
to this assignment as they did for Written assignment 1. Please review your assignment
as it is still on Canvas as need be.

Note: “B Horror Flicks,” while entertaining, may not be good for this assignment
because they typically lack character development and are often too campy to have a
more profound meaning.
Ex: Eli Roth’s “Green Inferno” and “The Sacrament” (technically T.I.’s movie) are FULL of
good material, in spite of the gore, while “Cabin Fever” is almost entirely campy horror
humor.
Ex: Jaws = good choice; Sharknado = bad choice.
