Los Angeles Valley College Media Violence and Real World Violence Discussion

There are a couple of ways you might go about writing your position paper. First, you could adopt the position of a particular organization or institution in the debate. For example, you could adopt the position of the Parent’s Television Council. Alternatively, you could adopt the position of the National Association of Broadcasters. Second, you may choose to focus on one aspect of the debate about media violence and articulate it fully in your position paper. You do not necessarily have to focus on every dimension of every problem associated with media violence. So, you could focus on the evidence related to the connection between television viewing and violent behavior, or the lack thereof. Or, you could focus on the role of parents in raising children, alternative explanations for violence, the public demand for violent programming, the utility of ratings strategies and the V-chip, or the First Amendment issues associated with government restrictions, amongst other issues.
