Surveillance evaluation:  For your assigned disease (Perinatal Hepatitis B), you will conduct an evaluation of how surveillance for it is conducted in Florida.  Your evaluation will be a modified version of an evaluation based on the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s “Updated Guidelines for Evaluation Public Health Surveillance System” according to the following outline (suggested length in parentheses):

1. Describe the public health importance of the disease under surveillance (1 paragraph) (part of task B in Guidelines).

2.  List classes of stakeholders in the surveillance system (1 paragraph).

3.  Describe the purpose and operation of the system, including legal framework under which it operates and how patient confidentiality is maintained (2 pages). This should include a flowchart of the data. (Part of task B).

4.  List the 2-3 most important system attributes listed under task D in terms of importance for your particular disease (e.g. is sensitivity or positive predictive value more important?) and list the 2-3 least important attributes and explain your ranking (half page). 

5.  Summarize the strengths and weaknesses of the system with regards to your disease (half page).
