When it comes to Personality Assessments, they can be very interesting to take, and some are surprised with the results. You might have also noticed that many employers are now requiring that you take a personality assessment during the interview process. Some individuals agree with this and some do not. Some do not think that their personality should be a factor in if they can do the job or not. “The dimensions of this five-factor (or Big Five) personality model have been given slightly different labels by different researchers, but the most widely used names are openness, conscientiousness, extraversion, agreeableness, and neuroticism.”

In this week’s discussion you will: Explore the Big 5 Personality Traits and provide a brief description of each one. Then you will visit the link below and complete the Big 5 Personality Trait questionnaire and share your results with your classmates and instructor.

The Big 5 Personality Traits are:

Openness- This trait measures the imagination and insight of people and how willing they are to learning and experience new things. People who score high in this trait tend to be adventurous and creative. People who score low tend are more traditional and struggle with being abstract thinkers, resistant to change.

Conscientiousness- This trait measures people’s level of thoughtfulness, impulse control and goal directed behaviors. People who score high, tend to be more prepared and organized, detail oriented, completes tasks right away. People who score low dislike structure, messier, unorganized, procrastinators, fail to complete tasks.

Extraversion- This trait measures how outgoing, social, talkative, assertive, emotional expressive a person is. People who score high like to be the center of attention, start conversations, energized around people, like meeting new people and making friends. Low scorers prefer solitude, exhausted at social events, have difficulty starting conversations, dislikes small talk, and dislikes being the center of attention.

Agreeableness- this personality trait attributes trust, altruism, kindness and affection. High scores tend to be have empathy, interest in others, care about others, likes helping and bringing happiness to others. Lower scores do not care how people feel, no interest in other people’s problems, insults and belittle people and manipulative.

Neuroticism- This trait is characterized how emotionally stable and resilient people are. High scorers tend to be more anxious, stressed, irritable, and experience mood swings. Low scorers are emotionally stable, handle stress well, rarely sad or depressed, worry less, and relaxed.

When I took the personality test I scored high on open mindedness (79), which shows that I am open to trying new experiences. I scored high in conscientiousness (83), which indicates that I am a reliable, well organized. In extraversion I scored an 83, which is high and it indicates that I am extremely outgoing, social and energetic. In agreeableness I scored high (79), and indicates that I am very considerate to other’s feeling. On my negative emotionality I scored was 29, which is a low score. I am not surprised with my results and I feel that they are accurate.
