The Imaginative Psyche – Dark Romantics

Which of the characters from the Dark Romantics do you think would be most popular among your peers today? Using a word processing program, create a fake social media page for one of the characters in the stories you read in this topic. You may choose the narrator from Poe’s “The Pit and the Pendulum” or Mr. Hooper, his fiancée Elizabeth, or another of the townspeople from Hawthorne’s “The Minister’s Black Veil.”

Your social media page should include at least one image of the chosen character and an image of his or her surroundings. You should have his or her name across the top of the page, supplying a name if needed. Be sure to also include the character’s approximate age, location, and occupation (if applicable). The page should have updates or “status” reports that show the main points of the plot and his or her probable mental state at each juncture. There should be at least fifteen updates that should include events from the rising action, the climax, and the falling action. Remember that effective web pages include attractive graphics. First-person point of view should be maintained the entire time (remember, you are the character). Wording may be your own, paraphrased, or directly quoted. After viewing your “web page,” your reader should get a good impression of both the plot and the character’s inner turmoil. Be creative, but double-check your page for any errors before submitting it.
